Why screen spline size matters

by Dennis & Teresa
(USA)

We bought a new screen door at Home Depot. No more than put it up and the spline was coming out and the screen was coming loose everywhere.
It seems the spline used is too stiff and too small. We are wondering about using the round poly foam spline to replace all of what came with this door.
We are enclosing a picture of the size of the spline that is on it now.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi Dennis & Teresa;

Thanks for the picture. It looks like 3/16 or .180 inches spline that they used.

.180 is actually very commonly used in sliding patio screen doors. But in this case its too small and the company didnt want to bother to bring in a bigger size

I would try 0.225 inch diameter polyfoam which is the next size up from .180 that should go in tighter and hold the cloth in better.

0.225 polyfoam is on my list of spline for sale on my spline page
