Hi
The glass panel shattered. 76"x34" approximate size
The local glass service quoted $190 to replace the glass.
IS this the best method or
can I buy a replacment panel?
If so where to buy the replacment tempered glass panel??

Thank you

Fixing Tempered Glass
by: Adrian from fixingscreens

The only way to get a better price would be to take the frame apart and install new glass yourself.

There are glass suppliers who sell only glass to window installers and window manufacturers. Some of them will deal with the general public but you have to know exactly what you need. You already know you have to ask for tempered glass but you have to be absolutely sure of the sizes - length, width and thickness.

These business may have minimum order policies. You might be able to get the glass made for around $100 USD. So the local glass service you found is not really charging you an unfair price considering they have to reinstall the new glass in the frame.

Tempered glass is expensive and 34" x 76" is a big piece of glass. You also have to be really careful to keep the bare edges away from from steel. It can shatter in your hands if you accidentally make contact with something hard.

Tempered glass is used in storm doors because it is a modern building code requirement. If you walk into it the glass is not likely to shatter, its very strong so long as you don't hit it with heavy steel. It also breaks into a million shards that are not sharp, so you dont cut yourself.
