I'm trying to get at the lock capsule in this door but can't figure out how to get it apart. Only external screws hold the door handles on which still leaves the lock cylinders in place. The lock capsule and it's mounting are hidden behind a face plate the whole height of the door. Any help on how to get this all apart without damaging anything?

Hi Allen;

Thats a really nice lock, not many patio doors use these Adams-Rite commercial locks but they really are the strongest locks you can get for a patio door.

I have never had to remove one but here is a pretty good YouTube video showing the normal removal procedure for the same lock in a commercial door.

I am wondering how they dealt with the set screws that hold the lock cylinders in place. I suspect they removed them altogether and instead made a tab on that cover plate that locks into the cylinder. With the plates off the cylinders should just thread out on both sides.

You can see the internal construction of the lock in these Amazon listing pictures

Be sure to grab the lock before you thread the last lock cylinder out as this lock will certainly fall inside the door.

THIS ARTICLE DOES NOT SHOW HOW TO REMOVE THE LOCK? NEW
by: Steve

I cannot find any information on how to remove the vinyl door length facing that would allow removal of the locking mechanism on my older Viceroy patio door. Can anyone help?

remove vinyl facing
by: Allen W

Thanks for the quick comments back and the helpful links. I will see if this is the correct lock capsule when I get it apart. However, I'm still hoping someone will have a clever idea for removing the vinyl facing that covers the whole edge of the door (without screws) as there is no faceplate other than this. Don't want to damage this piece.
