A255 SCREEN DOOR LATCH & PULL

A255 SCREEN DOOR LATCH & PULL

I need a model: CRL A255 Black sliding door latch and pull. I have a few websites that list this item, but all are out of stock, one says discontinued.
Two questions:
1. do I absolutely have to replace the latch/pull with this item only?
2. can I just get the screen door rescreened without the latch/pull included?
thanks,
George

Hi George;

This is a very popular style of lock. Yes you can usually substitute locks that look the same.

Unfortunately CRL does not give dimensions but the biggest issue will be the screw spacing. Worst case you might end up drilling two new mounting holes to make the latch you do find mount properly on the door.

Screen door vertical bars vary in width from 1-5/8" to 2-1/2" but up to 2" is very common. The metal latch connected to the handle is supposed to be flush with the opening or mortise cut into the screen door.

I posted a picture of an A139 latch that should work. This one is used all over the place and might even be found at Home Depot

But its not essential. If the latch sits inside or pokes out of the mortise by 1/8" you just find a hook that will poke into the door more or less. There are many different sizes of hook you can experiment with

Hope this answers your question
