Spline temperature limit

by Anonymous

Wanted to use some vinyl spline as an insulation ony smoker door ... what temp do u think that it can handle ?

The melting point of screen spline is typically in the range 120 to 180 °C (248 to 356 °F).

I think that even if it didnt melt you might get the taste of the plastic getting into the food from the chemicals off gassing.

You would need plastics like Viton or Kalrez which are made for high temperature. Not sure if theres a plastic thats both food grade and high temperature resistant.

Usually Silicone and Teflon is used in food applications.
